Founder 2003 - 2009
In 1988, Jim Pound retired from the position of Administrator at North Florida
Christian School. Working in partnership with Reverend Rayburn Blair, his
pastor at Temple Baptist Church, he was the founding Administrator of the
school, which was founded in September, 1966. The School began in a one-room
school building with a group of 20 students. In the following 22 years, he saw the
Lord lead in the growth of the school and the student body increased to 1,650
students in 3K thru grade 12. He was supported by 80 faculty members, 6
administrators, and 7 other department heads. The Lord brought together a
wonderful team of people. A full school system was built with complete facilities
to provide every adventure with the Lord to work day by day and to build,
supervise and manage this ministry.
After retiring from North Florida Christian, Mr. Pound moved to Wakulla County.
Through 2002, Mr. Pound was in business there. As his business required, he
frequently traveled to Tallahassee and, in so doing, passed by Wakulla Springs
Baptist Church. Each time he passed by this location a small voice in his heart
would say, "This is where I want you to build a Christian school." Therefore, Mr.
Pound recognized God's calling to build a school similar like North Florida
Christian in Wakulla County.
During the first week of January 2003, he visited Wakulla Springs Baptist Church
to meet the pastor. To his surprise, the pastor's secretary was Mrs. P.J. Piland
who had been a student at North Florida Christian School. Upon meeting the
interim pastor, Reverend Gary Linton, he was told by Reverend Linton that he
had visited the North Florida Christian campus just the day before. While he sat
on the church steps, overlooking the large campus of many buildings and
athletic facilities, Reverend Linton told Mr. Pound that he had prayed, "Lord, I
need a Jim Pound to help fulfill my dream of a Christian school at Wakulla
Springs Baptist. The next day Mr. Pound and Reverend Linton visited again and
committed themselves to work together to follow God's leadership to build a
Christian school for children in Grades K3 thru Grade 12. The purpose of the
school would be to provide an opportunity for an outstanding education which
would prepare students to serve Jesus throughout their lives, and to lead these
children to receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior if they had not already
From that day on, Mr. Pound worked to organize the school which was begun in
August of 2003. Wakulla Christian School became a Florida Not-for-Profit
Corporation in February, 2004. Wakulla Christian was also determined by the
Internal Revenue Service to be exempt from federal income tax under Section
During the months before Wakulla Christian School opened, an agreement was
reached with Wakulla Springs Baptist Church for the school to lease classroom
space available in the church. Two walls, separating small Sunday school
rooms, were removed to provide two classrooms which would each house 15
The school began with 28 preschool students at the start of the 2003-04 school
year. While the WSBC administrative team originally decided that the school be
a separate corporation from the church, which is the way WCS operated from its
inception until the end of the 2010-11 school year, WSBC voted in July 2011 for
WCS to become a ministry of the church – operating as a separated LLC in the
name of Wakulla Springs Christian School d/b/a/ Wakulla Christian School.
Wakulla Christian School was founded on the belief in the inerrant, inspired
Word of God, the Bible, the only infallible rule of faith and practice. The school
exists to assist parents in fulfilling God's ultimate purpose of preparing children
to enter into and mature within His spiritual family, and to respond to Him with
respect and obedience. The school seeks to assist in the personal growth and
development of students by providing an education based upon an integrated
understanding of biblical principles and academic knowledge. Education with a
proper emphasis on the spiritual, mental, social, and physical aspects of life will
lead to the balanced development of the whole person. WCS is a ministry of
WSBC – operating as a separated LLC in the name of Wakulla Springs Christian
School d/b/a/ Wakulla Christian School.
